Only From Westone #5

Request: In response to customer requests for a device to accurately record at ear level the experience of attending a live concert, a pro sound company developed tiny microphones and was looking for a way to position them in the ears without completely blocking the ears. The company sought out Westone to develop an earpiece that would hold the microphones securely in place, but also be versatile enough to fit a wide variety of ear sizes.

Solution: Using our history and knowledge of the human ear, we developed a “comma” shaped earpiece. The comma shape allows comfortable use in virtually any ear and also holds the microphones securely in place at the opening of the ear canal. The microphones simply friction fit into the injection molded comma, allowing for easy removal for alternate applications. While this may seem to be an application with limited possibilities, the company continues to do brisk business with sales now in the many thousands.
